Supporting both the John Byrne Award and the students of the institution, this role is paid and comes with additional travel and event budgets. The ambassador will work closely with staff, students and external agencies to promote The John Byrne Award and encourage further student submissions to the national competition.

About the John Byrne Award:

The John Byrne Award is delivered by the charity, The Iris Initiative, and patroned by the artist, John Byrne.

The aim of The Iris Initiative is ‘to better equip young people to afford them the greatest opportunity to shape their community and environment to best meet their needs, desires and values’. The John Byrne Award helps to achieve this aim by publicly recognising creative pieces of work that prompt thought, discussion and debate about personal and societal values.

The John Byrne Award started life in 2010 as a competition open to 6th year students in three high schools in Edinburgh. The John Byrne Award is now an online platform and national competition encouraging engagement with values through the creative output of our contributors.

Working with partners across the charity sector to support new initiatives is at the heart of what Friends of GSA do and we are excited to see how this new role develops.
