Each year, students of The Glasgow School of Art get the chance to nominate one of their peers for what they recognise as “an outstanding contribution to student life”.

The 2017 Friends of Glasgow School of Art Student Life Prize was awarded to Fine Art Photography graduate, Ray Bushell.

Nominated by numerous students, the decision to award Ray the prize was unanimous.

Described as having “made a huge difference to the lives of many students at the GSA”, Ray has always been a driver for change especially in the People of Colour community at the School and it is fantastic that this important work has not gone unrecognised.

Since leaving the GSA, Ray has now gone on to become a committee member at the hugely important Transmission Gallery in Glasgow. We wish Ray every success and we are excited to see the positive, progressive activity that will no doubt come out of this position.

The award was formally announced at this year’s Graduation ceremony by the President of The Glasgow School of Art Students’ Association (The Art School) by Laura Glennie. We would like to take this opportunity as a group to formally thank Laura and her team for the essential work they do for the students and the School.

Congratulations, again, to Ray, and thank you to all those students who submitted nominations, the panel that voted and all the GSASA staff that helped get everything in place for this year’s prize.
