V&A Dundee Tour and Lunch
Monday 18 February 2019, 11.30 - 14.00
V&A Dundee, 1 Riverside Esplanade, Dundee, DD1 4EZ
The only V&A outside of London opened in Dundee in September 2018. The £80m building was inspired by the cliffs of Scotland’s north eastern coastline and sits on the edge of the River Tay.
The museum has around 300 exhibits; including architecture, furniture, glassware, fashion, engineering, healthcare and video games. Work by the 18th century architect Robert Adam is on show, alongside the 20th century’s Basil Spence.
The main feature is Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Oak Room, which had not been seen in public for 50 years. The 45ft-long panelled room was originally designed for Miss Cranston's Ingram Street tearooms in Glasgow, in 1907. It was saved from being scrapped in 1971 and put into storage by the city council.
