The Charles Rennie Mackintosh building was severely damaged by fire on 23 May 2014, completely destroying the renowned library.

Natalia Burakowska and Ian King from the Heritage and Conservation Department of Page Park Architects will discuss the restoration work.

Natalia will talk about the library restoration and give an update on the current progress, with an emphasis on the hand crafted work.  She will discuss the work Laurence Mackintosh, Scotland’s leading manufacturer of bespoke joinery and hand made furniture, are doing.

Ian will talk about the various finishes which were uncovered in the building, and discuss the decorative aspects of the restoration, which will have a big impact on the aesthetic of the building.  He will reveal the fascinating story behind why particular things are being done.

Prior to the talk there will be an opportunity to tour the building; a unique opportunity to see the work in progress.  Please note it is a building site and you will be required to wear hard hats and boots.  The tour lasts an hour; climbing stairs is required the there are no chairs to sit on.  Places on the tour are strictly limited on a first come basis.
